Xià Boqiàn [夏薄茜]
Born in Sichuan, China, in 1992.
I started landscape photography from 2010 because I am nature convergent. In 2012, I became interested in portrait photography and started relevant works. However, there were no satisfied achievements as there was no inspiration cross my mind. Until 2014, the series called ‘Out of the Closet’ came up.
I think photos are something cold and heartless. They show the moments but they cannot actually keep the moments, as still, time flows from fingers and never stops. Photos tell the dispiteous reality to everyone. However, photos are something meaningful, more than just printed pictures. They remain the stories that happened at the particular moment and become the visible pieces of memories that last for longer, maybe hundred years, and pass the stories to the people in the future.
As a photographer, I don’t like to put tags or descriptions to my works. Although I have my feelings to express through my photos, different people may have different understanding when they see the pictures. I would like to leave some space for people to think, to feel.
From landscape photography to portraits and then back to landscape photography again, I thought through a lot and got deeper understandings, I will keep making projects on those two areas, but in a different way. I plan to make some documentaries in the future, about humanity and nature.
